Beethoven's Eroica Symphony

Concert branding and print advertisement for the Nashville Symphony's performance of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony. This piece, believed to be inspired by Napoleon Bonaparte, is incredibly dynamic, intense and gives one a feeling of great anticipation. This Jacques-Louis David painting, Napoleon Crossing the Alps, was the perfect visual representation of these qualities. Bold type and color treatments were used to make the imagery more interesting and relevant to a modern audience.

Nashville Baker Branding

Branding design for Nashville baking start-up. Nashville Baker creates delicious, down-home favors for events. Ben Burford, founder and master baker, wanted to show his new take on classic southern recipes with an old-meets-new logo, while including what has become his signature accessory, a bow-tie.

Shown here are round business cards and proposed favor packaging. The top of the box has bow-tie flaps with interlocking slits to keep the box closed.

Bread & Company Packaging

The Nashville bakery and cafe wanted to create packaging for their new gift line. The packaging needed to feel homey yet high quality and focus on the purity of their products. It was also very important for the label to be low maintenance, easy to apply and tamper proof, so it was designed with a shape and length that would be forgiving when quickly applied by hand.

Nashville Symphony Annual Report and Annual Campaign

Annual report and annual campaign fundraising materials for the Nashville Symphony. All pieces are clean, bold and modern, to reflect the active, relevant and artistic qualities of the institution. Squares and irises were used throughout as they are a strong part of the institution's visual identity.

Pecha Kucha Poster

Poster for Nashville's Pecha Kucha creative speaker series, volume 5.  The main requirement of Nashville's Pecha Kucha posters at that time was that the design revolve around the volume number. Since Pecha Kucha is geared towards a wide scope of creatives, a pencil was used as a symbol all designers and makers would have in common. A variety of typefaces and a casual illustration style were used to reflect the fun, laid-back nature of these events.

Governing Members

Logo, invitation and informational brochure about a new fundraising program at the Nashville Symphony. The design for this logo, invitation and brochure needed to relate to the branding of the Nashville Symphony and its current season, as well as feel new and exclusive.

This piece was later converted into a large scale self-mailer. Using variable printing and the symphony's database, we were able to customize each mailer based on the recipient's current level of donation.

Sliced Branding

Proposed logo and packaging design for fast-casual lunch spot whose focus was on light, healthy, veggie-centric food offerings with all organic ingredients. The proposed bag and to-go box would be made of recycled, non-bleached materials.

Bruce Pittman

Logo and business card design for event planning and design company Bruce Pittman Inc. After already having earned an impressive client list, including the Nashville Emmy Awards, Vanderbilt University and the Nashville Symphony, Bruce decided he needed a strong brand to match his experience and professionalism. His logo needed to inspire confidence as well as communicate the on-point style for which he is known.

The Fruitful Marriage

Logo design created for a marriage retreat series. The theme was "The Fruitful Marriage," focusing on ways to nourish and grow your relationship with your spouse. A highly saturated purple was used to relate to the depth and rich color of fully ripened fruit, and yellow to compliment it, creating a warm, comforting, harmonious pallette.

Nashville Art Scene

A new visual identity was developed to update the style of the Nashville Art Scene blog. While keeping the layout of the blog the same, a new logo was designed, type treatments and colors were updated, as social media graphics were created to give the blog more appropriate and professional look.

The goal of this logo is to strike a balance between the blog's credible content that focuses on business and public policy as they relate to the arts, while also appearing artistic, personal, and interesting. Four graphics were created to relate to different areas of the arts: visual art, film, music, and theater. They are to be used on social media when new articles are posted about each subject.

Beethoven's Fifth Symphony

Concert branding and print advertisement for the Nashville Symphony's performance of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. This is a classical piece of music that everybody knows, they just might not remember the name. A simple, straightforward type treatment is all that was needed to remind them.

Answers Men's Retreat

Poster, t-shirt design and flyer for a church's annual Men's Retreat. The focus of the retreat was Apologetics, the discipline of speaking in defense of a position through the use of fact and reason. The retreat leaders wanted to emphasize the educational aspect of the event with the promotional materials.

Everything is Illuminated

A redesigned of the book cover for Jonathan Safran Foer's Everything is Illuminated. This was created as a personal project, as the story is incredibly beautiful and moving. The main character travels to the Ukraine with only an old photograph to try to shed light on his family history and to find the woman who saved his grandfather from the Nazis.

Concert branding and print advertisement for the Nashville Symphony's Dueling Pianos concert, which featured two sister pianists tackling Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos. This piece is intense and frenetic, so this artwork was designed to match.

Russian Spectacular

Concert branding and print advertisement for a Nashville Symphony concert, Russian Spectacular, that featured the music of Russian composers. This original illustration borrowed from the Russian Constructivist style to quickly communicate the subject matter of the concert. It put the Nashville Symphony's Music Director, Giancarlo Guerrero, front and center as he is a well-known and easily identifiable figure in the Nashville community.

HardFocus

This identity was created for a new apparel company for sporting clay enthusiasts. HardFocus' goal is to develop a go-to brand for quality apparel items that can be worn on and off of the course. The brand seeks to be modern and appeal to both males and females, as the sport is growing a younger audience and female participation is increasing.

This logo was designed with a feeling of motion representative of flying clay targets. The color palette is reflective of the natural environment in which sporting clays take place. As the logo will be reproduced on a variety of apparel items, it was designed to feel as at home screen printed on a casual dry-fit t-shirt as it would embroidered on an expensive sporting vest.

Home Staging Specialists

Branding for new home staging business in Louisville, Kentucky. The founder wanted her new brand to be traditional with a modern flair, while incorporating a pineapple as a symbol of hospitality. Blank notecards and a presentation folder with a subtle blind emboss were included in this suite.

Poster for Nashville's Pecha Kucha creative speaker series, volume 9.  The main requirement of Nashville's Pecha Kucha posters at that time was that the design revolve around the volume number. Since this poster was for the winter series, imagery of a sled was used to reflect the season, the rapid pace of the presentations and the fun nature of Pecha Kucha.
